Bought in the summer of 1966 for 200 guineas out of a selling race at Stockton My Old Dutch had nothing in the formbook said she’d be any good but she had a look about her.

My Old Dutch’s career on the track didn’t start well for owner Charlie Buckton, as she finished down the field in her first three-year-old starts in 1967. We considered finishing her as she looked to be a bad buy. However, it was in June that she first showed that she had ability when she finished second at Carlisle, beaten by only half a length. It was at Teesside Park in July that she would win for the first time and she followed up at the same track a few weeks later. I wanted to run her in the Ayr Gold Cup and to do this needed to get her up the weights but she’d gone by then and didn’t win another race.

We retired her to the paddocks where she would come into her own and bred generations of winners.
