It's always exciting time for owners when the task of naming their racehorse comes around. Naming horses is a real perk of ownership and many of our owners put plenty of time to find a good racing name. The horse's name stays with them for life so it's important to find a good one. We do now and again get the odd silly name suggested or come out of a syndicate draw and roll our eyes but at the end of the day it's the owner's call. However, we think that the three new names here are excellent. A latest name on the list is Alpha Magic, a fine gelding by Ardad out of Piece Of Magic. He's a half-brother to one of our best known horses, the one and only Where's Jeff. Now in his eighth season on the track Where's Jeff this year passed the £100,000 prizemoney milestone when recording his tenth career success. Alpha Magic will run in the colours of Andrew Pollock who also owns Where's Jeff. We hope that his new recruit turns out to be as good as Jeff who has now raced 58 times and has an amazing strike rate of 17%. |

The three-year-old Advertise filly has also this week been named Alice Kaye. She will make her racing debut this season and has shown plenty of speed on the gallops.

There was also a draw for the name of the first 100 Club 2024 horse who will make her debut in the coming month. By Elarqam out of Penny Sixpence she will race under the name Scatter Penny. It's not a new name to us, as we had a Scatterpenny (spelled as one word) in the late 1980s but she didn't win a race and we hope the latest Scatter Penny shows more ability! The first name out of the hat was actually 'Pennywise' but it was already taken and therefore we had to draw a second name. So if you're a syndicate member with a prospective racehorse name remember to check the availability on the BHA website before you send in your suggestion. |
