Menelaus showed that he is a horse on an upward curve as he stepped up in trip to win on the Knavesmire for owners Brian Padgett and Southbank Racing this afternoon.

Ridden by top apprentice Connor Planas he followed up his victory at Thirsk eleven days ago by taking the 'Andy Thornton Hospitality Furniture Apprentice Handicap' over an extended ten furlongs.

The son of Galileo Gold has thrived on the faster ground and having travelled well midfield showed an impressive finishing burst and drew clear in the last furlong to win by three and a half lengths.

The horses are in good form right now and tomorrow we head back to York with Yorkshire Lady and Eligible.

Happy owners after Menelaus won the opener at York.
