Yorgunnabelucky is a full brother to Shamardal, and a dual‑purpose performer who now stands at Mickley Stud.
Yorgunnabelucky was purchased as a yearling for $175,000 and began his career on the Flat, winning four races before switching to hurdles, where he ran with credit, including a third behind Al Ferof. He later returned to the Flat to win a valuable 1m6f handicap at Newmarket, beating Tactician and Tominator, demonstrating the toughness and versatility that would later define his appeal as a National Hunt sire. His race record shows 24 starts, 5 wins, and earnings of just over £60,000, with Timeform assigning him a historical rating of 102 and noting his best distances between ten and fourteen furlongs.
At stud, he joined Mickley in 2015 and has since built a reputation as a reliable source of hardy, progressive National Hunt stock, while also producing several useful Flat performers. His pedigree is exceptional for a stallion at his fee: Giant’s Causeway was a three‑time Champion U.S. sire, and his dam Helsinki is an own sister to Street Cry, making Yorgunnabelucky a full brother to the influential Shamardal. This gives him access to elite bloodlines that typically sit far above his price bracket.
His progeny have enjoyed notable success. Libberty Hunter, rated 157, has been his standout performer, winning six races including the BetMGM Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. Fortunes Melody won a Listed hurdle in France and was placed in the Gr.2 Prix Bournosienne. Onemorefortheroad has won eight races and reached a rating of 137, while Lucky Zebo has achieved a mark of 135 with five wins. Several others, such as Lady Reset, Lucky’s Dream, and Lets Go Lucky, have shown versatility by winning on both the Flat and over jumps. Recent runners like Yorgunnarock, Changemyluck, and Bite The Bullet continue to keep his name active on racecards.
Breeders value him for his temperament, scope, and the consistency of his stock, which tend to be athletic, straightforward, and durable. Although he is primarily used for National Hunt mares, his Flat performers show that he can pass on speed and adaptability as well as stamina. Mickley Stud describe him as a good‑looking horse with presence and an excellent attitude, qualities that are reflected in many of his offspring.
