Popular stayer Spirit Of Acklam continued his love affair with Scotland this evening as he took the racingtv.com Handicap at Hamilton.
Stepping up to fifteen furlongs, the five-year-old tackled the longest trip of his career at a course he's not raced before, but he had no problems seeing out the trip under apprentice Rhys Elliott. Spirit took a keen hold in the opening stages and raced in third, before being ridden to challenge two out and hitting the front at the distance and held on to prevail by a neck. It was a clean sweep of the prizes too, as his groom Charlotte Hodgson won the Best Turned Out prize.
Spirit Of Acklam has already won twice at Ayr, and now he's added Hamilton Park to his Scottish portfolio.
Spirit Of Acklam is named after owner Maxwell Morrison's home village of Acklam, and everyone in the village follows the horse. Maxwell visits every week to bring his pride and joy fresh carrots and it's all paid off again.
Spirit Of Acklam now has four wins from 13 starts and a superb strike rate for his fan club.
A big thank you goes to Chhailu who rides Spirit Of Acklam out every day and has put in much of the hard work.
