Travels with Boris: Haweswater and Drybarrow Fell

We love to follow our ex-racehorses in their new lives and one particular favourite is Master Sheridan, now known as 'Boris', who now lives in the Lake District.

In his former life the son of Farhh raced five times but didn't have the pace to be a winner. His final outing saw him finish last at Catterick, after which we decided to retire him as he clearly wasn't enjoying what he was doing.

Now thriving out of racing, Boris hasn't looked back since leaving Sheriff Hutton and early mornings on the gallops are now but a distant memory.

This weekend Boris and his owner Holly had another adventure with a hack to enjoy the views over Haweswater reservoir. They took the route to the northern end of the reservoir near Littlewater and enjoyed the stunning views.

"We met some wild ponies on Drybarrow Fell", says Holly. "The ponies came to say hello he let out a snort!"

Boris is a real all-rounder and loves his hacks in the fells.

Boris has become a real all-rounder and has also done a spot of cross country training this summer.

"When he did cross country he was fired up at first. There was a lot of excited dancing on the spot but after a good gallop out he soon settled down and was jumping lovely. He really enjoyed himself!" said Holly.

"He took it in his stride and he did me very proud! I was so pleased with him. He certainly is some horse!"

"If you're thinking about giving one of these ex-racers a new life then go for it," says Holly. "We absolutely love ours. He has given so much joy to us".

And if you do want to go for it then visit our rehoming pages where we list ex-racehorses looking to start their the track adventure.
