It had been a long time between drinks for Carolus Magnus who ended a four year drought in the first division of the Melissa, Arabella And Oriana Hawthorne Handicap. Carrying the colours of Ursa Major Racing the seven-year-old came home two and a quarter lengths ahead of race favourite Monhammer to give jockey Joanna Mason a double on the day. Carolus Magnus had not won since back in 2021 when he recorded two victories at Newmarket and he made the most of his lowly mark today. Racing from a rating of just 58 he was some 27 pounds lower in the handicap than when last scoring for Andrew Balding and had since racked up a 26 race losing sequence. Carolus Magnus joined us in 2022 from Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale and this was his first victory since coming to Sheriff Hutton. You can watch the race here. |

Carlton And Co made it three winners for the stable on the day as she came home first in the second division of the Melissa, Arabella And Oriana Hawthorne Handicap. Billy Garritty was the winning jockey as the six-year-old mare recorded her second win of the season, beating Without Delay by a length. Sent off as the 11/4 joint favourite she was winning for owner Martin Peacock in his native Scotland. You can watch the race here. |
Today's treble took the stable to a total of 40 winners for 2025. It was the second treble for Mick and David as a joint-partnership, and the first time it had been done at a single track, the previous instance being when Rocket Dancer and Stittenham Wood won at Newcastle and Casilli won at Beverley in September 2020. |
