Nigarda was a giant black gelding, and one of the first horses in the stable. he came from Peter Easterby's yard. Nigarda was owned by my friend, farmer George Black. Nigarda won at Beverley in 1961 and a few minutes after he had crossed the line owner George Black collapsed and died at the racecourse. Nigarda would continue his career at the yard running for George's son Alan and won the Leven Plate at Stockton in October at odds of 25/1.
