A multiple winner, Burwell made his debut in April 1973 in the Grewelthorpe Plate at Ripon.
He won the Champion 2 Year Old Trophy at Ripon in September 1973. He also won at Newcastle and Haydock, and at Teesside in November 1974 he was one of the legs of an Eddie Hide treble. In May 1975 Burwell finished second and Dutch Gold third at Newmarket, Lester Piggott riding Burwell in the race. |
